Some racers battle for years, if not decades, to claim a track championship. For West Salem’s Cory Hanson, it was year #2.
After starting his racing career in 2022, Hanson took 2023 as another learning year to hone his skills. “We went into the season prepared to learn more about racing and figuring out how to best be prepared for each event.” said Hanson. “We had a pretty consistent start to the races going to two final rounds (in the first four events), but had no idea how the rest of the season would go!” Hanson strung together five consecutive races in the semi-finals or later, capped with a win at the seventh event of the year. Combining that win with another at the 9th event of the year locked out second place Joe Badour and earned Hanson the #1 position. Overall, Hanson finished 67 points ahead of Badour to claim his first Championship.
Hanson and his family have always been into cars. Whether it’s been going out to Rock Falls Raceway as a spectator, working on hot rods at the homestead, or participating in local car shows, his entire family have always wanted to be into racing—and now a championship is theirs forever. Working as a Service Manager for Goodyear Tire for the last ten years has kept Hanson in the automotive world at all times, a place he loves to be. Hanson said that almost as much as winning, he enjoys the comradery of everyone at Rock Falls. “You couldn’t ask for a better group of people to spend the weekends with. I feel like nobody is a stranger, and everyone is willing to lend a hand when somebody else needs it. The family atmosphere makes it a fun time to be at the track.”
Hanson wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks to Holman Pumping Service in Holmen, WI for their support in his racing efforts. He also made sure to thank his beautiful and loving wife Kalee, and two daughters Lilly and Lynze—who have also been bitten by the racing bug! “My smokin’ hot wife loves racing, my daughters love racing, and I love racing. I was happy in 2022 when we made it to the track finally to start racing, and happier when we secured the championship. But more than anything, going into 2024 and being able to watch my daughters race will be better than any championship I could win. Being able to spend weekends with my family at a place we love is the best trophy I could ever receive!”
